Boconnoc Steam Rally was born out of the Cornish Traction Preservation Club who ran a number of events over the years.
As the Cornwall Group wanted to concentrate more in the Wadebridge area, the Liskeard Steam and Vintage Club was formed. The main organisers were Richard Sandercock, Steve Veal, Roger Matthews, Les Baker and Antony Hooper.
Rallies were run at Merrymeet up to 1997. In 1998 there was no rally, but in 1999 rallies began at Boconnoc under the umbrella of the Liskeard Steam and Vintage Club.
Chris Sawford got to know Mr Anthony Fortescue through their mutual interest in vintage vehicles, especially tractors. The question of holding a steam rally on the Estate was posed, and as a result rallies started on the lovely Boconnoc Estate in 1999.
Mrs Fortescue and her family are equally as enthusiastic about the rallies continuing on the Estate, and next year we will be celebrating the 22nd Annual Rally in this beautiful location.
